January 2010- Using the CBCAP Peer Review Assessment and Database

November 2009 - The Protective Factors Survey: A Tool for Prevention Programs
This webinar was hosted by the FRIENDS National Resource Center. It was provided for the Washington Council on Children and Families and their funded CBCAP programs. Although the webinar audience was made up of program staff in Washington State, the webinar has general application for anyone wanting to know more about using the Protective Factors Survey. The webinar included instructions on how to administer the survey. Practical information on using the tool state wide was provided by staff from the CBCAP lead agency in Texas.

November 2009 - Early Lessons from Research on Washington State’s Council for Children & Families’ Evidence-based Home Visiting Program
This teleconference was hosted by the FRIENDS National Resource Center for CBCAP to discuss the early lessons learned from research on the Council for Children & Families (CCF) portfolio of home visiting programs in Washington State, and how these issues may align with national research and policy discussions. Consistent with multiple reviews addressing how to take home visiting to scale, CCF’s formative evaluation work in the first year highlighted the issues of model clarity and support, local adaptations, and local program capacity as central development and evaluation challenges to address.

October 2009 - CBCAP Learning Community - Implementing Evidence-Based and Evidence-Informed Primary Prevention: Opportunities and Challenges
This informational teleconference was conducted with the Staff from the Children’s Trust Fund of Michigan. They presented on their efforts to move toward stronger evidence-based and evidence-informed (EB/EI) primary prevention and non-direct service activities. They shared steps that the trust fund and local prevention councils are taking to move toward increased implementation of EB/EI programs and continuous quality improvement; the challenges encountered; and the work ahead. In addition, three local councils shared their experiences to advance EB/EI programs and evaluation practices. It was presented as a part of the CBCAP Learning Community.

August 2009 - Protective Factors: Applying Theory to Practice
This webinar was hosted by the FRIENDS National Resource Center and staff from the Strengthening Families Initiative to explore how Community Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP) programs can provide services that build and increase protective factors. The primary focus of this webinar was on how CBCAP leads are using a protective factors framework to shape their prevention program strategies. June 2009 - Supporting Evidence-Based Home Visitation Grants- Next Steps
Note: This call was an informational teleconference for Evidence-Based Home Visitation Grants through the Children's Bureau but has information about implementing an evidence-based home visitation program that could be helpful to a broader audience.
As the planning year ends, what are the most critical next steps for your evidence-based home visitation team? What can be learned from the literature about critical activities for success as your project moves into installation and implementation activities? What functions and structures must be present to implement, replicate, scale-up and sustain high quality, evidence-based home visitation programs? What will it take to build an "evidence-based home visitation system" in your community or state?
The National Implementation Research Network provided an engaging web-based presentation on "lessons learned" on these change topics, from research and experience, and will facilitate a discussion, among the grantees, about "lessons learned" and critical next steps.

December 2008 - The Protective Factors Survey: A Tool for Prevention Programs to Measure Change
This webinar was hosted for states and programs to learn more about The Protective Factors Survey (PFS): a tool for prevention programs to measure change. The PFS is a pre-post evaluation tool for use with caregivers receiving child maltreatment prevention services. This tool, with established reliability and validity is in the public domain.
The PFS is a self-administered survey that measures protective factors in five areas: family functioning/resiliency, social support, concrete support, nurturing and attachment, and knowledge of parenting/child development. The 4th field-test of the tool was completed in September of 2008. This webinar was the first time phase 4 field-test results were disseminated.
This webinar covered; 1) the development of the PFS, 2) PFS field testing procedures and findings, 3) how to use the survey and the database, 4) one State’s experience using the PFS, and 5) interpreting your findings.

May 2008 - Integrating Evidence-Based Practices into CBCAP Programs: A Tool for Critical Discussions
The Discussion Tool is a new resource from FRIENDS that will assist Leads in working with their funded programs. This call discussed how the tool is used to guide programs through the process of integrating evidence-informed or evidence-based practices that are the best possible fit with their service population, mission and resources. Topic: Secondary Data Analysis from the National Survey on Child and Adolescent Well Being (NSCAW)
This webinar highlighted several research projects conducting secondary analysis on the National Survey on Child and Adolescent Well-Being (NSCAW), a study funded by ACF's Office of Planning Research and Evaluation (OPRE). This survey is a five-year longitudinal study of 5501 children who had contact with the child welfare system. Research using NSCAW data informs policy and practice in child welfare services and other services to maltreated children and their families, and advances the state of knowledge in child maltreatment, child welfare, child and family services, and/or child development for high-risk children.
