Meet the Partners Prevent Child Abuse America
Engaging communities in the important work of strengthening families and valuing children are the core values of the network of national, state and local organizations that comprise Prevent Child Abuse America. For more than 30 years, Prevent Child Abuse America has been the leading national organization focused on preventing child maltreatment before it occurs. Headquartered in Chicago, Prevent Child Abuse America has a network of chapters in 38 states and the District of Columbia. The organization is widely known for its public awareness campaigns, prevention programs, advocacy efforts and research.
FRIENDS National Resource Center
for
Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention a service of the Children’s Bureau, is a federally funded National Resource Center that strives to build the capacity of states and communities to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to support and strengthen families. FRIENDS provides resources and services to Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP) grantees and set-aside programs through a partnership with four nationally recognized organizations in order to offer the highest level of expertise. FRIENDS provides services to the CBCAP community through targeted training and technical assistance efforts. These efforts include an annual grantees meeting, regional trainings, and individualized on-site training requested by state CBCAP lead agencies. In addition, FRIENDS offers a targeted list serve to share information effectively with states and other interested parties, a detailed web site with a variety of information relevant to the prevention community, participation in focused national, state and regional trainings, and the dissemination of the annual Child Abuse Prevention Month Packet. FrameWorks Institute
Founded in 1999 by Susan Nall Bales, the mission of the FrameWorks Institute is to advance the nonprofit sector's communications capacity by identifying, translating and modeling relevant scholarly research for framing the public discourse about social problems. FrameWorks designs, commissions, manages and publishes communications research to prepare nonprofit organizations to expand their constituency base, to build public will, and to further public understanding of specific social issues. In addition to working closely with social policy experts familiar with the specific issue, its work is informed by a team of communications scholars and practitioners who are convened to discuss the research problem, and to work together in outlining potential strategies for advancing remedial policies. FrameWorks also critiques, designs, conducts and evaluates communications campaigns on social issues. Its work is based on an approach called "strategic frame analysis," which has been developed in partnership with UCLA's Center for Communications and Community.
Doris Duke Charitable Foundation
The mission of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation is to improve the quality of people's lives through grants supporting the performing arts, wildlife conservation, medical research and the prevention of child maltreatment, and through preservation of the cultural and environmental legacy of Doris Duke's properties. The Foundation’s Child Abuse Prevention Program seeks to prevent child abuse and neglect in order to promote the healthy development of young children. It makes grants primarily to national organizations that implement prevention strategies within home visiting, early childhood education, and pediatric health care services. The Foundation has provided support to Prevent Child Abuse America for its Healthy Families America home visitation program and for PCA America's public education efforts, including support for the strategic frame analysis, which resulted in the findings and recommendations summarized in this tool kit.
